> Drop a product photo on this page and it is checked against Amazon's main image rules: a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), the product filling about 85% of the frame, at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side, a JPEG, PNG, TIFF or GIF file, and under 10 MB. The check runs in your browser. The image is never uploaded.

## What Amazon looks at on a main image

The main image is the first picture on a listing and the only one shown in search results. Amazon is stricter about it than about any other image on the page, and a main image that breaks the rules can get a listing suppressed or flagged. The rules below are the ones every current summary of Amazon's guidelines agrees on. Amazon's own page sits inside Seller Central and changes without notice, so treat this as a first check, not a ruling. The full list, with sources, is in [Amazon product image requirements](https://stillhouselabs.com/guides/amazon-product-image-requirements).

- **A pure white background.** RGB 255, 255, 255. Not cream, not light grey and not a soft gradient. Off-white is the most common reason a main image is flagged.
- **The product fills about 85% of the frame.** A small product floating in a large white field reads as a smaller product in search results.
- **At least 1,000 pixels on the longest side.** That is the commonly cited threshold for Amazon's zoom. Around 1,600 pixels or more gives a clearer zoom, so the checker warns below it.
- **A JPEG, PNG, TIFF or GIF file.** JPEG is the usual choice for a photograph.
- **A file under 10 MB.** Sources disagree on the exact limit, and 10 MB is a safe ceiling.
- **A shape that fits.** Amazon does not demand a square, but a square image displays most consistently, so the checker reports the ratio.

## How this checker tests each rule

The image is drawn onto a canvas inside your browser and read pixel by pixel. Nothing is sent to a server, and the page works with the network switched off once it has loaded.

For the background, the checker samples every pixel along the outer border of the image and counts how many are not exactly 255, 255, 255. It reports the share that are not. A JPEG saved at low quality can leave values of 253 or 254 near edges, so a border that is almost white but not exact is reported as a warning with that explanation, not as a plain fail.

For the fill, it finds the smallest box that contains everything that is not white and compares the box with the frame. The larger of the two ratios, width or height, is the fill. This is an estimate. A pale product, such as a white mug on a white background, makes the box too small, and a drop shadow makes it too big.

Dimensions, file type and size are read from the file itself.

## What the checker cannot tell you

It cannot read the picture. It does not know whether there is text, a logo that is not on the product, a watermark, a badge or a prop in the frame, and Amazon prohibits all of these on a main image. It does not know whether the product shown is the product you ship. Some categories, such as books, have their own rules, and the category page in Seller Central is the authority.

## Fixing a failed check

- **Background not white:** replace it with pure white in an editor, using a fill of 255, 255, 255, or ask your photographer for a white sweep and a photo exposed so that the background reads 255. Then export again at high quality.
- **Product too small:** crop in until the product reaches about 85% of the longer side, or retake it closer.
- **Image too small:** shoot or export larger. Upscaling a small file adds pixels but not detail.
- **Wrong file type:** export as JPEG.
- **File too large:** export as a JPEG at a quality of 85 to 90.

## Making the main image with Stillhouse

Stillhouse builds the Amazon main image from your product's own cutout on pure white, rather than generating a white scene, and checks it against these rules before you download it. The scene, model and detail frames from the same shoot are cut to Amazon's secondary-image slots. If you only need to test an image you already have, this page is all you need.

## Questions

### Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The check runs in your browser and the image never leaves your device.

### Why did my white background fail?

The rule is exactly RGB 255, 255, 255. A background that looks white can be 250 or 254, especially in a JPEG. The checker reports the share of border pixels that are not pure white, so you can see how far off it is.

### What does 85% fill mean?

Amazon asks for the product to take up about 85% of the image. The checker measures the product's bounding box against the frame and reports the larger of the width and height ratios.

### Does passing mean Amazon will accept the image?

No. The checker covers the measurable rules. Amazon also looks at text, logos, props and accuracy, which a pixel check cannot see.
