AI product photography for furniture brands

Updated ยท Stillhouse

The short answer

Stillhouse places every chair, table and shelf in your range in one room you design once, with the piece checked against your own photo for shape, proportion and finish. The whole collection looks like it lives in one house, with no location shoot.

Photographing furniture

Furniture is sold in rooms. A chair on a white background says little; the same chair beside a table, under a window, tells the customer how it will look at home. That is why furniture brands pay for staged location shoots.

The piece is large and its proportions matter. A seat height or an arm width that is slightly off is a different chair, and a room that changes between products makes the collection look unrelated.

Common photo problems

  • 01

    Proportions drift

Seat height, leg angle and arm width are easy to alter. A customer plans a room around the dimensions.

  • 02

    Finishes vary under light

Oak, walnut, lacquer and upholstery each show differently in window light and flat light.

  • 03

    Staging is expensive

A real room, props and a crew for each collection costs more than most shops can afford.

  • 04

    Scale

Without a person or a familiar object, a side table can be any size.

What the studio does about it

  • One room for the collection. Build the set once, with its floor, wall and window, and every piece is placed in it.
  • Piece checked against your photo. Each frame is compared with your product photo for shape and finish. A take where the proportions drifted is retaken.
  • Every finish from one frame. Reshoot an approved frame in each wood, fabric or colour. Each is checked against its own photo.

The shot list for furniture

  • Hero of the piece in the room
  • A second angle: three-quarter and side
  • Detail of the joint, the grain or the upholstery
  • The piece in use with a person or objects for scale
  • A grouping: the chair at the table, the shelf with books
  • Square, 4:5 and wide cuts for ads and banners

Questions

Will the dimensions be right?

The studio checks the frame against your product photo, but it does not read a dimension sheet. Put the real dimensions on your page and treat the image as a picture of the shape.

Will every piece look like it is in the same room?

Yes. The room is frozen once, so every piece is photographed with the same floor, wall and window light. The studio photographs one product at a time, so a grouping of several pieces is a brief you give it, and worth checking closely.

Can a customer see it in their own room?

Stillhouse builds 3D views from your product photos for Shopify product pages, with AR on iPhone. Check how the model looks before you publish it.
