What actually matters for a product page
- Use one aspect ratio across the catalogue. Themes crop to the first image's ratio or a fixed one; mixed ratios make a collection grid jump. Square is the safest choice; 4:5 suits fashion.
- Upload at 2048 px, not 5000. Shopify's CDN serves resized copies to each device, so a larger master mostly costs upload time and storage.
- Keep the product the same size in every frame. A collection page is read as a grid; a product that fills 90% of one tile and 50% of the next looks like two different scales.
- Write alt text that describes the product. "Tan suede penny loafer, three-quarter view" helps search and screen readers; "IMG_2041" helps neither.
