AI product photography for sunglasses and eyewear brands

Updated ยท Stillhouse

The short answer

Stillhouse photographs every pair of frames in your range in one set, on a model you cast once, with the frame shape and lens colour checked against your own photo. Reflections in the lens are lit by the room, not by a studio box.

Photographing sunglasses & eyewear

Eyewear is sold on fit and on shape. A customer wants to see the frame on a face, the size of the lens, the colour of the tint and the thickness of the temple. A flat product shot answers only part of that.

The product is also precise. A frame that is a few millimetres wider, or a lens that is a shade darker than the real one, is a pair that comes back.

Common photo problems

  • 01

    Lenses reflect the wrong thing

A lens shows what is in front of it. A studio softbox in the lens reads as a studio. The room's window should be there.

  • 02

    Shape drifts

A rounded square becomes a rounder one. Frames have to keep their proportions, and the bridge and temples are easy to alter.

  • 03

    Tint and colour move

Gradient lenses and tortoiseshell acetate are subtle. A small shift in the tint is a different product.

  • 04

    Fit needs a face

A frame on a plinth tells the customer little. They want to see it worn, from the front and in profile.

What the studio does about it

  • The same model on every pair. Cast a model once and the same person wears each frame, so the range is comparable.
  • Frame and lens checked against your photo. Each frame is compared with the product photo you uploaded. A take where the shape drifted is retaken.
  • Every colourway from one frame. Reshoot an approved frame in each colour. Each is checked against its own photo.

The shot list for sunglasses & eyewear

  • Hero of the frames on a surface in the set
  • Worn, front on, by the cast model
  • Worn in profile, to show the temple and the fit
  • Detail of the hinge, the bridge and the logo
  • Folded or in their case, to show scale
  • Square and 4:5 cuts, and a 9:16 for stories

Questions

Will the frame shape match my product?

Each frame is checked against your product photo, and takes where the shape drifted are thrown away and retaken. Frames worn on a face are the hardest case, so look at them before you publish.

Can I use a real person as the model?

Yes, with their consent. You can cast an AI model or build one from photographs of a real person you have the rights to use.

Do you do prescription lenses?

The studio photographs the frame and lens in your photo. It does not simulate a prescription.
